The U.S. Digital Services Playbook – Key Takeaways

Being fairly new to the US federal #govcon #govtech domain, I was recently introduced to the United States Digital Service Playbook. If you haven’t checked out this valuable resource, you should! https://playbook.cio.gov/ I have 2 sets of observations having read the playbook and details –
  • MOST POWERFUL PLAY for me is # 3 – Make it Simple and Intuitive. I’ve been spending time at 4 of Akira Technologies’ federal contracts across health and civilian agencies, and see the number of hoops, amount of task/intent time, and degree of complacency in processes. If you are a true change agent, you will need to fight those battles every day because you know there is a better, simple, and intuitive way.
  • MISSING FROM PLAYBOOK are 2 key topics – (1) Focus on Outcomes, Not Outputs, (2) Fall in Love with the Problem, Not the Solution. The playbook does not mention either of the 2 key ideas that have now become table-stakes in digital product management and strategy. I plan on contributing to the playbook on both these missing plays in the coming weeks (Yes, I want to be part of the solution).
